Boston Micromachines Corporation is seeking a Production Operations and Facilities Manager to supervise and manage the production of our award-winning optical MEMS devices at our fabrication facility in Cambridge, MA.

Our core product line features optical MEMS devices, which are processed in our 10,000-square-foot cleanroom. Our production processes include vapor deposition of reflective coatings using an e-beam evaporator, packaging of the MEMS device, and testing and characterization of each device at various stages of processing using microscopes, interferometers, and other metrology tools. 

The specific job responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s experience and skill set, but will include:

  • Scheduling and tracking work flow with interaction with production, sales and engineering teams (including daily, weekly, monthly and annual planning); ensuring commercial orders are delivered on time and meet QA standards.
  • Formalizing and adhering to manufacturing and quality control procedures.
  • Working with the Inventory Control and Planning Manager, to implement new ERP/MRP system in our manufacturing process
  • Implementing continuous process improvement in our manufacturing and product lines.
  • Ensuring performance and preventive maintenance of all manufacturing and measurement/test equipment and clean room facility; responsibility for recommending and implementing plans for facility growth and improvement.
  • Managing the production team; leading regular meeting of production and customer support teams to review status of open orders and address any issues or delays.


 The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree (in engineering or related technical field preferred) and 5+ years leadership experience in production and/or manufacturing management preferred. Should be combined with a demonstrated track-record of accomplishments as a Manufacturing and/or QA Manager.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to provide clear task assignments, create a shared understanding of strategic direction, promote a sense of purpose and inspires motivation. Possess a strong customer orientation.
  • Ability to bring together appropriate people and information to make timely, effective decisions.
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills including the ability to solve problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved.
  • Ability to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case by case basis as encountered.
  • Familiarity with MEMS devices and practical experience with semiconductor processing equipment and/or optical metrology preferred.
  • Familiarity with SAP Business 1 software a plus
